REMOTE RESTORE IN SINGAL USER MODE

Iam having two sun machines one is sun Intel another is sun spark .But one has tape drive attached another doesn’t have. What my need is

1.I want to take backup and restore in normal mode in sun Intel. That is run level 3.
2.I want how to restore full backup from remote tapedrive in single user mode in sun Intel.

Weather it is possible restoring full backup from remote tape drive attached to sun spark in single user mode.

The network interface is not up in single user mode, so it is not possible to connect to any remote device

While the network isn't brought up in single user mode you can 'ifconfig' the interface up manually and set data in resolv.conf and/or set a defualt route (if needed). This will allow access to the remote tape.

If you make the box with tape drive as a boot/installation server, the client(s) can boot up in single
user mode, and restore the system from the tape backup. (It works for me!)

ASKER

I boot in single user mode . And enabled my network card .

I connected to my remote tapedrive which is connected in sun server. Its working fine.

But my another question i can't enable my network card , If i boot with my boot cd .Weather it is possibe to enable nic while booting with cd .
You will have to ifconfig yout nic

if it is a hme interface, IP 192.168.0.1
use
ifconfig hme0 plumb 192.168.0.1 netmask + broadcast + up

I not able to plumb the interface . When i boot from cdrom.
