OWA - red "X" in place of message body text box when attempting to reply, forward, or create new message

Hello experts!

I have a laptop running windows 2000, with all of the latest updates/patches/IE version/etc.  When I log into outlook web access I can read mail just fine.  When I try to reply, forward, or create a new mail message, the message body text box does not appear (I get a little red "X" instead).  Because of this, I can't type any message content for any email messages.

This only happens on that particular laptop.  my workstation both at work and at home work fine.

Anyone got any ideas as to how to correct this?  I mirrored the IE security config on the laptop with a known good PC, but still not working.  There are no pop-up blockers on the laptop either (the new mail message window comes up fine, but there is not message body text box to type a message in).

Thanks all!

Thanks Frank!  This really helped me!
I had been searching on and off for this particular problem for two weeks.   This was my EXACT problem, and the above solution worked like a charm.

On a related note--- do you know HOW this situation can occur?   Any special item like installation of Office 2003 on the laptop/workstation, or....?

In my office, this situation has occured on some, but not all, workstations.   We're looking for a common denominator for the cause...
im having the same problem with about 10 computers in a lab .. month old ... other 15 are fine ... very strange ... i tried the solution and it works great. thanks so much.
I had the exact same issue, and this fixed it for me! Thanks for the info!
Didn't work for me.

Microsoft is listing a hot fix - to be applied to Exchange Front & Back End servers for this.
Hi mjh33,

These are some old posts.  There are some security updates that make OWA not work with IE7 if a patch isn't run on the Exchange server.

Please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829 for info, that is probably what you are looking for.

I wish it worked, but it appears that the Triedit folder in Windows 7 is EMPTY.  There is an "en-US" subfolder, but that too is empty.  I've set the view to show hidden and system files, still nothing shows up in the folder.
If you are using Win 7 and ie 8/9, this is the solution:

In owa access Options and download latest version of S/MIME Control.  (Under Email Secucurity.)
