Try turning off the Microsoft Messenger feature in Tools - Options

I know it seems unrelated but it does slow it down something cronic, the &quot;feature&quot; crept in on Office XP, see the following article:<br />

We have exchange 5.5 server, and have been using office 97. Everything’s works fine. We have now been doing some upgrading to office 2003. We currently have 2 computers with clean installs of office 03. It finds the exchange server just fine and the associated name. Then when you open outlook it just takes forever. The first time usually times out and we have to click retry for it to finally find the server. We have tried just about everything we can think of. Any help would be great. Thanks
