forgot my administrator password and my installer CD isn't working. Is there a way of resetting without purchasing another CD?

The store you bought your PowerBook from ought to help. And Apple should stand behind defective media on the installer CD. Finally, you could use a friend's operating system install CD to get the password reset.

You need to boot from the installer CD to reset the password. When you are booting, hold the C key down until you see that it is booting from the CD. You should eventually get to a screen that offers you a choice of resetting the password

DarylHope,
From the grade given and speed with which you closed the question, I'm not sure if your problem actually got solved.

You are a relatively new member of Experts-Exchange and may not be aware that it's not a question and answer type of site, but rather one involving collaboration. People participate from around the world, so don't be shy about leaving your questions open for a day or so to gather input from other places. Also, if a solution isn't working for you, post a comment back to clarify matters.

When I posted my comment, you may have felt that the suggestions were things you had already tried. If so, there is no obligation to accept my comment as an answer--merely post a comment that you had previously tried each of the suggestions.

If in fact you really did solve your problem using one of my suggestions, that's wonderful! If not, then post a comment and I'll reopen your question for further input by other experts.
