HP Scanjet 4300C "not enough disk space"

OS: Win XP Pro
Scanner: HP 4300C
Interface: USB
Software: HP PrecisionScan LTX 1.11

Problem: After many large scan's (some in the 40MB range), PrecisionScan reports "Not enough disk space".

Check of 45GB hard drive indicates badly fragmented disk with approx 50% free space.

Defragged the disk, got rid of temp files, defragged several more times.
Shows 50% free disk space (20GB), defrag not necessary (defrag chart looks good).

PrecisionScan still reports "Not enough disk space" to save a 14MB file.

Any Ideas?

How much ram do you have. Maybe you have to add some memory.
