I'm going for a server rebuild but have fallen at the first hurdle. When I plug a mouse and keyboard in it seems to pick them up at first, it boots from my CD I made that has it's own dos based menu but then I can't choose anything from the menu. It's strange because I can hit Esc and skip the opening compaq oem screen. I let it run into windows and it still won't detect either, any ideas?

Yes, you needed to enable the DOS USB support.  It's called many different things in different BIOS, but you seem to have done it.

Good Job!

just to update this, it wasn't a usb keyboard, i think i might've worked that one out ;) it was a setting in the bios to disable keyboard access (physical access) without first supplying the pass in the bios.
