Server does not send mail from outbox

Hello experts,

i use Small Buisness server for operatingsystem at school. Now since today
nobody at school is able to send any mail at all.
You can send, but it stays in outbox.
Does anyone know what i can check to see what is the problem here?
How do i access the mailoptions thru the server?
What could be possibly wrong that is preventing the mail to be sent.
You're help is very much appreciated.

Check Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) under services and verify that it is started
