Citrix client to server redirection??

Okay, so this is more than likely a simple solution...however, I am not able to figure it out.

I just got through upgrading my Nfuse Classic 1.5 IIS server to Web Interface 2.1...that went flawlessly!  Now I am going to go through the process of upgrading all of my LAN/WAN computers to PN agent instead of full PN.

Here is a bit of a background on our setup so that you can understand what I am trying to accomplish:
     Company Setup:
           1) Corporate headquarters (CA) with all servers listed below
           2) Las Vegas Branch
           3) San Diego Branch
           4) Phoenix Branch
           5) Various DSL sites that come in via Web Interface
All of these sites are setup with point-to-point VPNs over a full T1
     Server Setup:
           1) File server with ALL branch data on it (Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc)
           2) 7 Citrix servers hosting all applications necessary (Windows 2000 server, Citrix Metaframe XPe FR3)

Basically right now we have the remote branches (except the DSL sites) all just using their locally installed copy of Word & Excel to access data on our file server over the WAN.  We have seen that this is causing some SERIOUS delay in their performance.  As such, we are upgrading to PN Agent and pushing Word & Excel to their desktops as published applications.  However, the problem that I have is that people have shortcuts on their desktops, or utilize Windows Explorer to launch items.

And finally, the question:

How can I setup my scenario above so that when someone in Las Vegas double clicks on an Excel file through Explorer that it will launch using PN Agents published Excel 2000?  Please give me step by step directions needed on both the server end & client end (if necessary).  Remember, these are not going to be files on their C or D drives ever.  Along those same lines, what I have read about being able to do this says it is a requirement to be mapping client drives...is that correct if I am not using C or D for the client to server redirection?  We have client drive mapping disabled, and would prefer not turn it back on.

Thanks for any suggestions or help you may have.   NOTE:  If someone can give me step-by-step directions that help me solve this problem in a timely manner (within a day or so), then I will list another question worth 500 points for their taking.  I need to learn how to do this so that I can travel to the remote branches and set them up.

Also, is there something on the Citrix servers that I have to setup?  I set these up before we had PN agent on the radar...so, I didn't select any of the PN Agent setups...however, through our Web Interface 2.1 IIS server we have the PNAgent setup wizard etc...(sorry, didn't mention that that is a separate dedicated web-server separate from the Citrix farm)

It seems like Experts-exchange is starting to dwindle in the participation field.  Anyone out there have any clue why?

In the CMC
1. Under Applications, right click on the published application (Excel) then click on Properties.

2.  In the Application Properties screen, click on Content Redirection.  You should see the registed extentions for the application.

3.  Click the file extentions you want to launch the application or click Select All, if you want all the extentions.

4.  Click OK to exit the Properties dialog

On the client.
1.  Enable Single Sign On in the PN Agent

The PN Agent must be running and logged in before launching trying to open the file.  Also it is best if there is no local copy of Office.

Are both of these conditions met?  If it still doesn't work, let me know.  Also if you give me some detail of how your environment is set up (client & server OS, PN Agent version, Metaframe FR, OS Service Packs, etc.) , I will try to simulate in my test lab.

Okay, I just realized that in the install of the PN agent there is a single-sign on selection too...so, when I did that it worked.

Have you had problems with a locally installed copy of Office?  I can't remove it from the machines because sometimes they may go off-line.

I have found that that Citrix will launch the app as long as the PN Agent is logged on.  When the Agent is not logged on, the local copy works as you would expect.

Sorry too quick on the submit button.

The only time having the same program (Office) on the client machine could cause a problem is if the user changes the file associations.  If that happens, log the PNAgent off and back on again.  That will reset the associations. (Something good to keep in your help desk documentation) :-)

Good luck

Okay, so I guess I ended this question too quickly.  I noticed that Excel works fine (we have a published app called Excel - Citrix).  When someone double clicks on an XLS file on their computer, it launches Excel - Citrix & all is well.  However, they go and click on a DOC file & it launches their local copy of Word.

Things that I have checked:
1) Word is published & they can launch it (called Word - Citrix)
2) Word has all file associations setup for Content redirection
3) There are no differences between the way Word is setup & Excel is setup

Any ideas?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, if I uninstall Word on the local machine, then, yes, it does work with the content redirection.

However, uninstalling Word isn't an option, since as I mentioned before, they go off-line sometimes, at which point they need a local install of Word.

I have seen that happen sometimes.   Especially if you make the associations to an application that has already been published.  Try republishing Word and see what happens.

Okay, I will look at it.  It is only intermittent...so, it's strange!  I will keep you posted if I find something abnormal.
