Sound issues with Day of the Tentacle on Win XP

I'm trying to play Day of the Tentacle using Windows XP, but I have issues with getting the voice to work.  Usually what it does is plays the first word in the dialogue and then "craps out."  The music and graphics are fine, and I have a soundblaster card, so that shouldn't be an issue for the voices, I believe the IRQ is set correctly (but I'm not too sure about that, let me know if you think that's an issue), and so I'm clueless.  Any help would be heavily appreciated.

DoTT is an old game and Windows XP cannot run older DOS games that well. Fortunately, there is a software called ScummVM, avaiable at:

http://www.scummvm.org/

that allows you to run all the great LucasArts adventures in WinXP with full sound and that can even enhance the graphics a bit (sort of anti-aliasing).
