Outlook Express hangs while downloading email

Hello this is my first post.  I am running Exchange 2003 hosting multiple pop3 domains.  Several of the accounts frequentlly have trouble downloading email  The clients use Outlook Express to connect and the mail will download some number of emails and then hang.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Steps to try

1) Disable AV and see if problem stops. MS suggests this, but if I was stuck using MS mail clients, this would scare the crap out of me.

2) Switch client to use a sngle DNS server in TCP/IP properties (Outlook and Express sometimes have trouble when mltiple DNS servers are listed in TCP/IP config)
