I have no problems splitting 50:50 but was wondering if you are basing the split on your own evalutaion of the original two comments (i.e. do you agree that "half the Q" was answered by the first comment and "half the Q" was answered by the second?).

cl3012,

When making my recommendations I am heavily influenced by the expert recommendations posted regarding how the question should be closed.  If an expert recommends a split and there are no objections and I don't see a reason not to split I will recommend a split.

As far as the percentage for each side of the split, the tool I use doesn't allow me to change that.  I just recommend a split between EXPERT and EXPERT and the MOD who closes will take care of the point awards.

To answer your question, it looks to me like you both offered different approaches that might have solved guestcg's problem so a split would be appropriate since either one might have been the answer.  As far as I can see MASQUERAID was the only one to pick up on, and answer, the second question asked and thus might should get a higher percentage of the points.

Comments?  :-)

I still have no objection to splitting the Q, as stated prev.

However as for "splitting hairs":

My take on the answer(s) to the "first question":

Me> You can uninstall the plugin, or update this plugin separately from the Morgan MM site to stop the crashes

MASQ> Yes, out with mmswitcher.dll (or if your worried move it from the system folder to somewhere temporary so you know you can mamage without it!)

My take on the answer(s) to the "second question":

Me> uninstall Nimo, re-install only with necessary codecs / better yet, try a different codec pack, or even install codecs one at a time from original sites - best case

MASQ>  I'm going to go for the opposite view and suggest you install a different bundle (& pull out those you don't need later!)

My take on the answer to an additional comment:

guestcg> Also, I read on this site about deleting mmswitch.dll but I'd like to know what it does before I do that.

Me> The Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher plugin allows you to switch on-the-fly among multiple audio streams encoded into a video file.  Hardly any internet-downloaded files make use of this.

MASQ> [None]

I'm especially not trying to disparage MASQUERAID at all, but please correct me if I'm wrong.  I'm only bringing these nitpicks up because I feel I have not been recognized as contributing in other questions, but I did not ask for any moderation.

BTW, whether you agree with my take or not, it is essentially just a personal nitpick, so please delete all comments after your recommendation comment, for PAQ cleanliness, if you don't mind.

Are the questions ones that I made a recommendation in?  If so would you post here or email me a complete list to turn123(AT)experts-exchange.com (I promise I won't moderate but I do want to see more of the history then I see now) :-).

Would you have any objection to moving this discussion to http:Q_20934056.html?  I can move all comments there and delete from this question.

You are the top Multimedia Apps expert and I do recognize that and want to give you a big THANK YOU.  I want to  get this issue resolved to your satisfaction (I don't think the big issue for you is the point split) but don't want to keep flooding guestcg's inbox.

Oh, while I'm at it, one more "tainted" PAQ:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/WinXP/Q_20908898.html

(Once again, I'm requesting for removal of tail-end comments only)

Thanks, I was going to suggest moving comments if there were any more.

As you requested, here are a couple of instances where I had an objection (there was no administrative input in either):

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Applications/Q_20899892.html
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Applications/MultiMedia_Applications/Q_20903885.html

Actually, in both cases, if you could remove the tail-end comments, I'd appreciate it.  I voiced my opinion, I don't need records of that.  (Same for Q that spawned this commentary)

It's just another case where I wanted to voice my opinion, esp. since there was admin moderation this time.  No need for further resolution on current and past threads, but I appreciate your acknowledgement of my concerns.

Thanks!

(Request for delete on this one too, as appropriate.)

Highfive Gives IT Their Time Back

Highfive is so simple that setting up every meeting room takes just minutes and every employee will be able to start or join a call from any room with ease. Never be called into a meeting just to get it started again. This is how video conferencing should work!

cl3012,

I've deleted the off-topic comments as requested.  I've also copied the original comments leading up to this question over to this question.

I'm going to come back to this question tomorrow when I'm not so tired.

I really appreciate all the work you put into answering questions.  Thank you :-).

cl3012,

Regarding the fact that the asker will make poor point awards:

I really hate that :-).  I wish the world were perfect and askers would always award points correctly or split them.  I have found that over time I win points that I didn't earn and don't get points that I should have gotten.  If I did nothing they would end up somewhat even after much time and many questions participated in.  IMO the split button needs to be much more obvious but that's not going to change for a long time (although it has been suggested).

You are more then welcome to post in Community Support or bring these to my attention if it's in one of my TAs.  This problem is covered in http:help.jsp#hi104 but the expert warning seems a little risky to me as it could (and has) fallen under http:help.jsp#hi102.

Regarding cleanup recommendations:

Please make a recommendation when I ping a comment that you post in.  It really helps me when experts do this and you are more likely to get the result you think is fair.

Did I miss anything?

Where do you want to go from here :-)?

I have seen some other experts become rather upset at things like clarity of splitting and other site functionalities, but like you say, I think all things tend to average out over time.  I probably won't post CS questions regarding cases like the above in the future because of that, but I'll try to hold off making off-topic comments.  I'll try to chime in w/recommendations if I feel I have a clear opinion, but mostly I'm neutral on point rewarding.

Thanks again for expressing concern, I don't think I need any further resolution.
