newbie compiler questions

I am having a software program written.  Not sure if it will be in Visual C++ .NET or Visual C++ 6.0 yet.  I will receive the source code and copyright.

There are certain things that I will need to change in the source code (branding).  The author assures me it will be well commented with what I need to do.  Then I will compile it myself.

I don't know anything about compilers.  Does one compiler compile all of these languages, or are compilers designed for just one language?

Are there any free or inexpensive, easy to use, compilers that work on windows?

Thanks,    Chris

>Does one compiler compile all of these languages,
If the source code requires MS VC++ or VC++ .NET libraries, you may have to get compiler .... If written in ANSI C or C++, using standard libraries you can use one of the several free compilers for windows

borland C++
turbo C++
