Question about microsofts ChkBook example.

Are there actually two instances of the document or just one shared document?

One document.  Two DIFFERENT views onto the same doc.

so if I update a value in the document from one view it will be reflected in the other view?

It should be (You may need to use the UpdateAllViews fn).
