First off I am a Linux beginner.  How do I set up to run SNMP as a service when my computer starts up.  Also how do I manually start the SNMP service?

For redhat linux 9.0

          you do this things to run snmp agent deamon

give the command at prompt

/etc/rc.d/init.d/snmpd start  -> start

/etc/rc.d/init.d/snmpd stop   -> stop

/etc/rc.d/init.d/snmpd retstart -> restarting

you can configure it using the file
      /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

for automatically starting snmp agent server ,
   cd /etc/rc.d/rc3.d
   ln -s ../init.d/snmpd S100snmpd
   cd /etc/rc.d/rc5.d
   ln -s ../init.d/snmpd S100snmpd
