Trouble with infra red

I have a TOSHIBA laptop and a CANON BJC-80 printer, if I connect them by the paralel port it works fine but if I connect them by infrared port the printer doesnot work and Windows sends messages such as  "Cartridge not found", "Printer is not available" etc.
I have tried  LPT3 emulation and  COM1 port and nether case it works. However, according to the infrared icon it seems that the comunication between the machines works.
Somebody can help?

Thank you very much

Hi,

The "Cartridge not found" issue is listed on Microsoft's Knowledgebase. (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;261938)
You need to go into the BJC 80's printer properties, which can be accessed by right-clicking on the printer in the Printers folder - and disabling the Cartridge Detection feature in the Settings tab.

If this doesn't help then there's also another article on the Knowledgebase: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;228379

Failing that, I'd make sure you have uptodate drivers installed for the printer: http://software.canon-europe.com/Printers/Bubble_Jet_Printers/BJC80424.asp

Hope this helps.

Hi  jrt01uk,
I'm sorry I'm so late answering you but I couldn't do it before.
Your suggestions helped me find the solution: 'Configur the port as a serial one'. The parallel emulation doesn't work.
So the points are for you.
Thank you very much for your help.
