Can I use ActionErrors in my own servlet, and use the corresponding Error tag in JSP pages to display errors, without using the struts framework (e.g. struts-config.xml, action class)?
Hope to get some kind of confirmation from experience user.

Yes.  You just need to use the right key when bunging the ActionErrors into the request/session/application.
