go from 2 CPU to 1 CPU

Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4 on a virtual platform.

we have this OS running on 2 CPU's.  i need to remove a CPU.  what steps are needed in Windows to see only one CPU?

Windows will continue to work anyway.  However, if you go into Device Manager, expand the computer, then double-click the HAL type you can change it back to one.

If the HAL reports MPS ACPI then make sure you match the equivalent HAL for Uniprocessor or you'll be in for some fun.
