Nero hangs when accessing freedb

Nero 5 worked fine for me (except for buffer underrun problems).  Installed Nero 6 (and a couple of updates) but it regularly hangs (unexpected error has occured) when trying to access the freedb database for track information.  Nero's advice is only to be sure I have the latest build.

Any suggestions?  How do you configure Nero to use a local version of the freedb database instead of the one across the 'net?  Talk slowly, I'm a simple guy.

Have you already downloaded the freedb database from the website?

If not, here is the link:

(Alternately, you could use the CDDB database from your Nero CD.)

Extract the database to your hard disk, and take note of the location (folder) where you extracted it.

Choose (or create) a separate empty folder somewhere.  This will be the location for the CD database that Nero will use locally.

In Nero, choose "Import Internet CD database" from the Extras menu.

Nero will ask you for the location of the target database (folder of extraction) as well as the location for the local database (new empty folder).

The next step is grueling, as you will have to wait a long long (long long) time for the local copy to be built...
BTW, I'm not sure I can narrow down the source of the "unexpected error" in Nero, and importing a CDDB for local use may not necessarily remove this error..

Nero no longer distributes a database on CD.  The problem is most likely due to a conflict between the stripped down Win CD writer stuff and Nero.  I wound up just taking Nero off the PC.
