Ok, here's the idea: create an identity (or whatever) for our main conference room so that it can have a calender that people can use to schedule its use.  That would mean that they could open the conference room's calender in Outlook and reserve it for a particular day and time.  Any ideas how to do this?

And this will be a calender that everyone can access and make changes to?

Commented:
If u are looking to make confrence room as a resource so everyone can schedual it
then u have to do few things first.
Give urself full mailbox rights to confrence room mailbox.
Add it to ur profile.
open confrence room within its profile(not urs)
click tools\options\calendar options\resource schedualing then choose the options that u like. While
there u will be ask to set the permissions for the calendar.Try it and u will know what i am talking
about. Then if u have any more questions call back.

lets say u are finished with the setup .How this works is when ur users want to schedual the resource room
they will have to invite the resource room and resource room will automatically accep or reject(if already booked)
and those times will automatically show in the confrence room calender.
when a user makes creates a new appointment and invites others he or she will see three options
required optional and resources and resources is where he or she will insert the confrence room and the
rest will be automatic.
