How can I implement a connection pool using struts 1.1?

I have an idea how to do it with v1.0 but it utilizes a servelet to initialize the pool and uses GenericDataSource (which is deprecated)... there must be a better way, right?

Thanks!

I'm sorry, but this really isn't helping me much....

Is it best practice to have the action servlet actually make the connection or to delegate that to the business objects. I would think the former, but the second link describes how to make the connection within your action class... I'm confused.

Thats a different question :)
If you're using a connection poll then it doesn't matter as much as the actual connection is really being made by the pool.

Ok... so I don't want to make a pool that is dependant on Tomcat....
