Preform printer maintenance

We have a HPLJ 4100 and it now displays Preform Printer Maintenance.
I know this means replace the fuser but it is triggered by a page count I believe.
My question is how long before the fuser really needs to be replaced and is there anyway to shut off that message?
There are no print quality issues.

These are just like car manufacturers suggested replacement for timing belts etc.  I usually let it ride - but that is up to you.  You can turn off the message via the menus on the printer
