hi,
i know that for HID, one can get the GUID value from hidclass.h and even call and API call. however, i wish to get the GUID for an USB mass storage. i've very new and do not know much about this device management area, hence wish to find out how this can be done.

thanks!

Ashboro,

you have to use WMI to get this ID. You have to get a object for the USB device and retrieve its DeviceID property.

I will try and explain how to code it in the other post, but I would suggest that you first go two things :

1. get the WMI SDK from http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/platformsdk/sdkupdate/

2. WMI Tools from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=6430F853-1120-48DB-8CC5-F2ABDC3ED314&displaylang=en

after installing WMI tools, open the page C:\Program Files\WMI Tools\browser.htm and look at the various devices, properties, etc
