With Oracle 8 you have several options.

Options that come with Delphi:
-----------------------------------
1. BDE:  I find it somewhat slow compared to other solutions that come with Delphi, but reliable.  (Note: Borland has discontinued BDE)
2. dbExpress:  This is very fast.  (Note: the dbExpress driver is some what buggy.  I would purchase a replacement driver from Corelabs (http://crlab.com/dbx/))
3. ADO:  I find this one also slow (slower then BDE), but reliable.  Make sure you have the lastest drivers from Microsoft.  (http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/Default.aspx    Look for MDAC downloads)

Options that you must purchase:
-------------------------------------
There are a lot of options here.  I use the dbExpress driver from Corelabs (http://crlab.com/dbx/), because I use multiple database and don't what to lock myself into oracle only.  If you don't care about locking yourself in then take a look at Oracle Data Access Components from Corelabs (http://crlab.com/odac/).  I would say this is the best method of accessing Oracle hands down. It is the fastest options and takes advantage of all of Oracles features.   I have not used any other options, but you can look at this site for more info about other options.(http://www.kylecordes.com/bag/listbytype.html)
