Hi.

I have a friend who cannot place his cursor in a text field in his browser.  The I-bar appears, but when he clicks, the cursor does not go into the text field.  He also cannot highlight any text in the browser.  When you click on help/about, error 96 comes up.  I've tried clearing cookies, temp files, etc.  Links and buttons work.  Any ideas?

Thanks.

No idea what the I-bar is.  Here are some points that may help

1) WindowsUpdate to apply needed service packs for the OS and IE
2) clear temporary files (including offline content) and history files
3) clear related cookies to the site and/or link that appears to be the problem
4) when does the error 96 occur?  within a form?  unclear.
5) clear autocomplete items

Scan system against virus/trojan/worm, against browser hijackers, spyware, hostile BHOs, etc.  Be sure that whichever program or application is used here, it (they are) updated with current definition files; new items added frequently due to the volumes of bad news being generated out there.

I found one ERROR 96 related to very rare problems with RealPlayer or RealArcade or the like as noted here:
Error #96 The audio capture device is unsupported.
http://service.real.com/help/errors/error96.html

Some for database issues, some for VisualFoxPro and many others here
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=error+96

If this has not helped, we need to know what is running at the time and more specific error messages as well as what you may find noted in logs, depending on the OS and version.
