When i load a applet into my IE 6 browser i get the error  on the status bar:
Start : Applet not initialized

When i try to see Tools > Sun Java Console.
That does not open up too.

The Applet works fine in Appletviewer.

This Applet was created using NetBeans 3.5.1 IDE, that uses JDK 1.4.2.

Can anyone help me here pls ?

Do i have to depend on individual users java plugin settings... that looks like a problem to me , as various ppl will have different settings. Isn't it possible that right jdk plugin etc. is automatically downloaded as reqd.
Or does anyone recommend going the java application route with Java Webstart. Do we face similar challenges there ?

Thanks.

Have a look in the Java console for an exception and post that exception stack trace.

You can access the Java console by following these steps:
Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Java Plugin
Select "Show Console"
Click Apply

Then reload your applet page and see what is printed in the console.

After you're done you can select to not always show the console
