DVD Capacities

Why is it that some production DVD's, like the ones you rent or buy fom Blockbuster, have a capacity upwards of 7GB?  DVD+R can't even do that unless you write both sides.

They're called "dual-layer" dvds, effectively twice the capacity of single-sided, single-layer dvds, which are 4.3GB.  In June or thereabouts, dual-layer dvd writers will hit the market, but the media is still very expensive.
