Recover Data from corrupted hard drive

My hard drive has 4 partitions (c,d,e,f)

My friend formatted c drive to re-install the OS.
But the computer did not recognise the OS.

Therefore, he formatted again.  All my files are in drive e.
To back up my files, I put the hard drive in my friend's computer.  But when i click the e drive, it says "The disk is not formatted, do u want to format?".....

I want to back up my data.

Kindly help me.....

Thank you!!!

if (big IF), when he formatted.... he only formatted the C: partition, then you should be able to reload the O/S on C:.. and have your other partitions available

/ what do you mean by it did not recognize the O/S?

Even though my friend re-formatted and re-installed the OS, when i boot up only a black screen comes and says insert a bootable disk....

OK... so when i tried putting the hard drive in my friend's computer only 2 partitions were detected (out of 4) and both the detected drives are "RAW" format....

How can I retreive data from it???
Free Tool: ZipGrep

ZipGrep is a utility that can list and search zip (.war, .ear, .jar, etc) archives for text patterns, without the need to extract the archive's contents.

One of a set of tools we're offering as a way to say thank you for being a part of the community.

crazyone's list is so comprehensive that it's hard to figure out which apps are worthwhile. by my experience based on two semi-devastating HD crashes off late:

erdcommander (if you don't  have another box to put the culprit drive to)
easyrecovery pro (if you do)
casperXP (if you do - you can copy the entire partitions for safety before attempting to recover data from them)

links to all are above.
If you put the drive as a slave on a Windows 2k / XP machine you may have a chance of getting data back, but it sounds like your partitions were set as logical drives in which case you probably won't have much joy.

The software I would 100% recommend is: Active@ Uneraser 3

I had 2 x Mator's running Raid 0 and the bottom line is when Raid 0 fails you are screwed, this software actually restored everything on the drive, it comes as a demo, but does not restore any files.

This will give you an idea what can be restored.  And I do swear by this program as it saved my life

This software was worth every penny that I payed for it.

Good Luck.

your symptoms show that xp does not now what to  do with this drive and its partition, it does not
know what they are.

to repair this problem you would need a partiton tool , one of the best is partion magic

or try the lesser options of freeware or other 3rd party software either way , try to see
if any of these options can repair your problem.

also note that i belive you cant install xp the first time around is that
when formating the c drive somehow the drive was no longer in active status.
it became a less logical drive , .  not a primary active partition.

please note messing with partition can possible repair your problem or leave it  dead and
loss all your data , i owuld first back up what ever you so far  and start from there
heres a tool to help you on your way to access dos and other recoverytools
dear friend do one thing just go do fdisk and then format only c drive and then re-install the os again then u can access the e drive and recover ur data of e drive
vikas aggarwal
I've had a similar problem recently, heres how I see it, your boot partition is stuffed, use linux if possible
