I keep getting an error in outlook 2002 saying that "Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x00040820)in backgorund synchronisation".
I have reinstalled Windows XP Professional and Office XP.

The accounts in Outlook are as follows:
1 x Exchange 2003 client account
1 X POP3 account

I have reduced size of of my mailbox in exchange from 846MB to 135MB but still get the same error.

The Problems turned out to be a corrupt OST that was also Encrypted! - We unencrypted it then had to recreate it all works fine now.
