Is Maya the best modeling tool for Isometric games(with directX) ?

is there a better software?

is there a special version of maya for Game dev ?

I guess any modeling tool can do the job as long as it can export models to the DirectX .x format or 3DStudio .3ds format. I think DirectX only supports these two formats natively but i may be wrong about this. Personally i've never looked deep into Maya. I use 3D Studio Max to make the models and then export it to .3ds format. There is also a modeling tool written by discreet written specifically for game developers called gmax, you can find more information about this tool in their official site in http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/ . There is no special version of Maya for game dev altough if you really want to use it, Maya 6 will do the job.

I'm agreeing with Eric Draven, use 3DS Max. It is by far the easiest modelling tool I;ve found for games, and by using the .X export function you can create/replicate 3DS functions in your game as a .X file is basically a text file specifying where everything is
