Hi,

Can anyone give some feedback on buying traffic.
Is it a good idea and are there any particularly good or bad companies to look out for.

Thanks

The key for buying traffic is to understand how traffic is generated by the companies who deliver traffic to your site.  The traffic service companies usually explain this in their FAQ pages.  You should never trust a company who doesn't explain how the traffic is generated.  There're 4 types of website traffic services as far as I'm aware of:

1) use popup or popunder;
2) abanded domain - the traffic service company bought a bounch of expired domains which still get some visitors from search engines, links or bookmarks.  This type of service, in my opinion, generate better visitors than other traffic services if targeted visitors match your needs.
3) traffic exchange - if you visit two site (setting your browser homepage to service company's homepage), you get one visitor;
4) the traffic service comapny creates free adult sites to attract visitors, and use popups or even hidden windows to deliver useless hits (not even visitors) to your site. This is definitely something everyone should avoid.

In general, visitors from traffic services have lower quality compared with other traffic generation approaches.

i suggest you to buy ads in niche portal or community website.
they're targetet to your audience.

say you sell software, then search software download and submit there or buy ads.

Never buy traffic because all you get is sever drain and negligible clicks on the loaded page.

Swap links, buy advert space, invest in an affiliate program like www.CJ.com, get listed in specilist sites (VERY VERY good), get great Google rank, get reasonable Yahoo listing... all that will do you great.  I even use traffic exchange scheems from time to time (visit my site to see what: www.mad-den.net)... other than that name drop your site whenever you can and get mentioned in the press put it on your business cards and put a link in all email signitures.

But purchasing traffic is a mugs game.

The only traffic that I will buy is from Paid-To-Click program. Where members actually need to visit the websites for a certain time (20 seconds etc).
Don't EVER buy any traffic from auto-surf programs. As the name suggested, it is automatic. Where no real visitors will be seeing your site.
I usually dont get good results from popup or popunder. I dont think those kinds of traffic will work because most of the surfers have their popup blockers on.
Just my two cents :)
Good luck.

Hi

thanks for the comments - enlightening, esp on traffic.

>Skiyuki - do you have a link on the paid-to-click program you use. Google brings up a bunch os sites with those keywords.

I've seen some sites advertising massive numbers of email opt-in addresses at what seems very low prices - ???

thanks

just thinking...paid-per-click seems a good idea for an advertiser at first.....

...but now i'm having visions of people with as many open windows as their screens can take clicking away like automatons....

No, sorry. Not so far. I only use manual traffic exchange programs(target visitors).

Be aware of this one.
- If what you talk about is get-paid-to-read-email programs, then it will be totally a waste to advertise there if your site has nothing to do with money-making theme.
- If you are talking about safelists. Then it is even more a waste of money because most members of safelists will simple delete the emails.

Since I don't buy traffic often. I really can't suggest you any good companies. But be careful when you choosing where to buy traffic. It is better to buy target traffic so you dont waste your money.

Off topic: actually I'd prefer websites like Traffic Swarm (http://www.trafficswarm.com) where you can target your visitors, and there is a little place (about 5 lines) for you to write some description of your site. And it is manual. I do believe that there are some people who sell their credits(hits) in Traffic Swarm (there is a "Transfer" option).

Well, unfortunately, this is possible =S

Just some suggestions pop to my mind. Before you decide to purchase ANY traffic. First do some researches. There are too many ways where seller (or some companies) can cheat you.
Good luck. Apologize can't be helpful =(  I'm never interested in buying traffic cuz there are so many ways you can get target real visitors.
