Netware 6, SP3 Groupwise SP3

One of my users sends mail and includes his name in the BC list but has stopped receiving them.

Any ideas?  I do not get errors anywhere else.  The properties tab indicates that the message was delivered but he does not get it in the mailbox.  this once worked.

Thanks,

Michael

My first instinct is to ask why anyone would need to BC themself on a message? Has this person never heard of Sent Items? BC and CC ing yourself on emails is very early 90s and even the most archaic mail apps handle sent items storage specifically to negate the need to copy yourself on mail.

That being said, if Sent Items states that the message was delivered, it was delivered.
Check for Rules that run on mail and/or enable full status tracking to try and determine what has happened to the message.

The user is very archaic and needs the emails sent to his in box for a reminder of what he sends.  The user hates computers but needs them for work.  Point being, it doesn't matter why it doesn't work it just simply doesn't work.

The properties states the message was sent to the domain but doesn't give a status at the post office or user level.  There are no custom rules that manipulate mail in this mailbox.

Michael

You state this once worked. WHAT HAS CHANGED? Have you recently applied a Support Pack to GroupWise? Installed a C3PO into the client? Did the user change his folder view parameters?

This isn't magic, and things happen for a reason. So, what has recently changed about the environment?

Unfortunately, nothing changed in the configuration in the last two weeks.  I did have the servers crash twice but they have since recovered.  The admin before me (three weeks ago) did not document any changes that where made over the last 3 months.

Make sure that the user does not have abad address for himself in frequent contacts and/or searched address books. Most likely the user has input a bad address and it is being recalled via automatic name completion each time they type in their own name.

As an immediate test, place the user's mailbox name in the BC field rather than relying upon name completion. If the message is delivered, you have a contact problem.

That's a good idea - you might also want to look at altering his Name Completion Search Order so that it uses the GroupWise System Address Book first rather than his Personal Address Book(s) - I've found that this can help avoid name-resolution issues.

Another idea, if this guy is such a l-user that he needs this BC business instead of simply looking in his Sent Items folder, is to construct a Rule that links the outgoing message to his mailbox folder.

Update:  It only happens when the user's secretary sends an email by proxy.  I was leaning this direction but failed to mention it here.  This user does proxy another individual without the same results.

Then I would look at the Proxy permissions, and ensure that they match in both situations.

Okay...
We've gone from:

"One of my users sends mail and includes his name in the BC list but has stopped receiving them"  ---->
"When a secretary sends a mail on behalf of a user and blind copies the user that she is proxied into, the user does not receive the BC" ?

Test this:
Have the secretary send a BC message to the mailbox which you say does not receive BCs and track it.

A message from a mailbox to the same mailbox will NEVER reach the MTA, this will be handled solely by the POA so If you are seeing the Domain routing the message, you have an invalid address in teh mix.

Trying to make some sense of this thread now..

The problem appeared to be with the proxy user's address list.  It's still a confusing problem to detail but the resolution was dumping her address books and recreating them.

Sorry for not following up quicker.

Michael

This sounds like precisely the advice provided on 4/21:

Maybe it is just my point of view, but I don't know why the points would be refunded when the advice lead to finding the cause and implementing the fix.
