win2000 sever workgroup setup

How can I give certain network users access to specific folders and not access to others?

ntfs files system


create a group  "tempusers"

add the users that  will have access to that folder in that group.


what folder they need access to "right click it " go to properites
goto the security tab , click add   look for the tempusers group and add
them. apply

then remove the everyone group , make sure you give them the apropriate
rights to the folder
make sure you or your admin still have
access to the folder.

ucheck the inheritable permission check mark , as setting will trickle down to
that folder.

i belive thats it.

login as one of them and check to see if they can only access this file.



if you want  them to see only one folder or use only folder in the entire system
or have a locked system. consider using security template ,  login policy ,
time restrictions , poiclies , etc ,

Right now everybody is logging in as administrator is there a way of doing it the other way around limited access to certain folders for a couple of users
