How to backup and restore outlook client

I need to backup my outlook client and restore it to another computer. I have following questions:

1. Is there any prerequisite which I should do?

2. Which files should I backup? Should I use the backup and restore facility from the file menu or do it at operating system level?

3. How do I restore on target machine without overwriting the existing folders?

Look for *.pst file searching in hidden folders
Mostly it would be found in
C:\Documents and Settings\{your profile name}\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
