Outlook process hangs after closing

Outlook client hangs after closing out and I am unable to open it back up unless I kill the process. I have tested two things one of them was changing my options, the other was to use a pop account which works fine I can open and close all day long. It seems that when I use the exchange account the process hangs. The Icon at the bottom says that it is requesting info from the exchange server the box never goes away.
