Javascript File Dialog to Flash File?

Ok I know there have been a lot of questions about how to show a file dialog box from your flash file and then upload it to a server. I have a question with a bit of a twist on that. Say I didn’t want to upload a file all the way to the server. Could I use the method of opening a javascript file dialog and then have the file the user selects passed directly into my flash file that’s running in the user’s browser?

For example the user presses a button in my flash file and I use a getUrl call inside actionscript to launch a javascript method that transparently opens a file dialog box. The user then selects a file but instead of having the javascript send the file back up to the server right away it sends the file to the flash file so the flash file can add it to an object before deciding when and if to send it up to the server.

Does anyone know what the linkage between the javascript and flash file would look like? I’m not a big javascript guy so I need some help. Also, to start off with it’s acceptable for this to work on only IE.

Thanks,
R. Sparrow

Unfortunately it's not quite that simple...

Here are some links that may be able to help. As far as I know these are the only two solutions I know of and they're very messy...
