intercepting print jobs w/ PDF server

Is there a PDF distilling server that can masqerade as a printer?
I'm looking to  intercept main frame output that can only be destined to printers that have an IP address.

Distiller does this at the client level, so that I can print whatever to my virtual printer, but what would be able to distill PDFs from a legacy mainframe that only outputs to printers it can see?

I know this is a hardware section, but I'm sure many a print admin has been asked to research something more efficiant than paper archival.

is a small utility that will capture output sent to a "dummy" LPD printer on a pc, as a text file.
(I use it with <ip address>/print as the lpr port)
You could then pass that to Distiller, or use redir to redirect it to PDFwriter, etc.

Batch`n print pro could also do this.

as will this:
