Heellloooo Experts!

The following powersupply is the manufacturer-provided replacement:

http://support.gateway.com/s/POWER/6500184/Q0018407.shtml

GW cannot get me the item 'til a week from MON.  I am going away and need to service a client with this part.  PRONTO! :)

Is there any reason I cannot use a generic?

My challenge/question is for my friends here to point me to a suitable sub for this.  Would love to hear suggestions for a firm that can overnight me the beast at a good/fair price.

Many thanks!!  I'm ready to award some points tonight! :)

absolutly no reason you can not use it, unless the plugs is different or the generic unit dimensions is not suitable, if it produce the same wattage then go for it, I used different powersupply on different machines, sometimes I take one off a machine to put it in another machine

my only concern is this unit has the fan in in and most genieric ones if not all have the fan on the other side, so possibly gateways motherboards need extra air, not sure though

Would love even more detail about exactly which p/s I might buy (and from where).

ok simply look on the existing one and see any specs on there, then you will have to match the specs, most the specs is standard, however servers will need more power than desktops, and as I said your main concern will be the dimension, what I normally do I take it out then go to a small computer store and they will match one for me, the last one I did was about 40 ozy bucks so that's about 30 green packs, huge difference if you do not buy it from GW

Ahmed my man,

UPS just dropped off the Gateway powersupply, so my question becomes moot.  That was good service from GW!  Said it would take a week and it came overnight!  $5 shipping -- very reas.

However, since you were a good neighbor and answered quickly, please accept the points as a token of friendship.

Well done, the Ozzies!
