Can I create a desktop shorcut using a batch file

I've got a simple batch file that places an exe within a folder under c:\program files.

What I want is for the same batch file to then create a shortcut to that exe on the desktop of the particular user that is logged on at the time.

I have no idea how to go about creating shortcuts using this method, so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it!

thanks

create a shortcut Manually put a copy of the shortcut in it (on the network)
then tag this on the end of the script

copy \\server\folderwithshortcutin\shortcutname.ink "c:\program files"
copy c:\program file\shorcutname.ink "c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop"
