Linksys BEFSX41 probs

My  Linksys BEFSX41 keeps crashing, I am on the lastest firmware.

After testing I noticed which application it is that always running when the crashes happen and they never happen when this app isn't running so I think it is fair to say it is the problem. Unfortunatly, it is bestoke team working software which is quite important. I think the problem is that I need to set the TCP/ UDP ports in the Linksys so that it allows them and therefore doesn't crash? NB, I can run the program succesfully for a short time, say half an hour, it is strange. Ideas welcome!

How do I find what these ports are? I believe it will be a port range?

I and at least one other (see http://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Routers/Q_20917707.html) have had BEFSR41 crash problems using the latest bios (befsr-fw-1457) and have backed off (to befsr-fw-1442z), with success.

In this case, using the most recent bios seems to have introduced more problems than it solved.

Thanks Alan,
Is 1442 the version that comes pre-installed? If not, how do I get that version's bin file?

Also, I noticed that there is a bugtraq ID for our router regarding a DoS attack:
"vulnerable      Linksys BEFSX41 1.44.3

not vulnerable      Linksys BEFSX41 1.45.3"

Clearly, there is already DoS from using the latest FirmWare with set software.

Martin

Martin, I visited the LinkSys web site (http://www.linksys.com) and checked in their support section for bios upgrades. It looks like they only offer a dowload for 1.45.3 (http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp?fwid=172), unlike for the BEFSR41 (which does not have built-in VPN support).

All I can suggest, therefore, is that you try reverting to the pre-installed version which may be on a distribution CD-ROM.

The Evil-ution of Network Security Threats

What are the hacks that forever changed the security industry? To answer that question, we created an exciting new eBook that takes you on a trip through hacking history. It explores the top hacks from the 80s to 2010s, why they mattered, and how the security industry responded.

Have you tried an email to support@linksys.com?

Martin,

You can get older Befsr41 firmware (1.44.2 or the 1.44.2z) from the linksys public ftp site:
ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/befsr41/

The file name for the 1.44.2z firmware is "befsr-fw-1442.zip"

Cheers,
S

Thanks both. Just to keep you updated I contacted Linksys support but I believe that is largely customer service, so they passed it on to technical and said they would get back to me.
