pdm setup on pix 506

I have finally been able to connect my console and access my pix 506, I am attempting to set up the pdm for use on the computer that is connected via the console cable. I have issued these commands inside the configuration:

http server enable
http 10.11.12.2 255.255.255.0 inside

I have also tried outside. this computer uses the pix as its gateway (10.11.12.254) but after I issue the http commands I cant seem to access the pix via the web interface:

https://10.11.12.254

Can someone help provide some insight?

Thanks!

are you using netscape or IE to try to access the pdm?

I'll be using IE - about the PDM, I dont know, from what I've been reading I need to have DES enabled and the PDM loaded. according to the cisco web site:

pixfirewall# show version
Cisco Secure PIX Firewall Version 6.1(1)
PIX Device Manager Version 1.1(2)   <---- I am missing this line
<snip>
Licensed Features:
Failover:   Enabled
VPN-DES:    Enabled    <---- I am missing this
VPN-3DES:   Disabled

I have sent an email to licensing@cisco.com to be given a free des key.

heres the web site I got the info from:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_tech_note09186a0080094ac1.shtml

Do you think I am on the right track?

Thanks!

You need to load the PDM image into the PIX first.

I doubt very much that PIX units shipped with 6.0(1) have PDM preloaded.

I would advise upgrading to PIX v6.3 so you can use PDM 3.0.  Both are a lot better than their predecessors !
