Email for my domain?
I have a domain, http://www.example.com . I am running IIS 5 (i don't know if that matters). Is it possible to revieve mail on that domain? For example, if a user had a question, they could send an email to support@example.com . I am looking for something free, and it would be nice to be able to send/recieve mail in outlook or outlook express. I don't even know if this is possible.
Thanks!
Thanks!

thanks for all that info, it looks like it would all work, but i don't have email forwarding. I a free domain for my site from no-ip.com. So the address is blabla.no-ip.com. Is there a way to do it? I should have been more clear in the origional question
Thanks a bunch!
Thanks a bunch!
On no-ip.com, they allow you to add MX records. Add an MX record that links to your machine IP (you must setup and A record that links to your IP. The MX record can't have just an IP address.) Go to http://www.mailenable.com and download the Standard Version. Its Free :) Setup Mail Enable and it should work. This will allow you to send and recive email with an email like this: you@blabla.no-ip.com.

Thanks! I recieved the test email from outlook when Iset it up and then after that first time, it gave me this error:
Task '[mail server was here] - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
Now, i cannot send or recieve any emails, except for emails Isend to myself.
I think i am kind of confused. I my domain name is blabla.no-ip.com , would my MX record that links to my machine ip be blabla.no-ip.com?
Also, in outlook, are both the smtp and pop servers mail.blabla.no-ip.com?
Thanks for all the help

If you have a A record at no-ip.com for mail.blabla.no-ip.com, yes. If you don't, I would just use the IP or just blabla.no-ip.com. That should fix your Outlook Error. The MX record that you setup can't be an IP, so you can set it up to point to blabla.no-ip.com.

OK, I have the A record for blabla.no-ip.com pointing to blabla.no-ip.com, but I can still only recieve email that I send to myself. I think that the problem is somewhere in MailEnable. I have setup the domain blabla.no-ip.com in the domains folder. I have a mailbox named test that is set to recieve emails sent to test@blabla.no-ip.com. Thanks for the very quick response (10min)!!!
I take it that your Outlook problem was solved. Just want to make sure, Are you behind any routers, or have a firewall? Did you do anything special to make HTTP (port 80) work? If you did, you will need to set that up for the port 25 (SMTP) and port 110 (POP3)?
ASKER
Yes the error stoped (don't ask why, I don't know) I am behind a firewall, but I enabled ports 80, 25, and 110. I can still only recieve emails sent to myself.
ASKER
Nevermind. The error only stopped in outlook express, but i still get the pop3 error in outlook, even though the settings in both are the same. i have blabla.no-ip.com as the pop3 and smtp server in both programs. Thanks
Try typing in the IP only. As far as email, try sending an email to the test account using a test email (like yahoo or hotmail) and see if you can respond. Take note of any errors that are recived back if they get bounced back.
ASKER
I changed the mail server to my ip. I have been sending test emails from yahoo since I started to try to get this to work. They never get through I just got all the returned emails back earlier today and deleted them. So the next time I get one back i will tell you what it says. In outlook, i get the same error (0x8004210A) as i told you above sometimes (its weird, sometimes it says send/recieve complete, and other times it gives me the error). But in outlook express, it never gives me an error.

the email that i got when it bounced back said:

Version: 1.72-- refused connection at 04/30/04 19:26:32
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too
long."
Thanks

This is good and bad. The good news is that it can connect to your email server and that mailenable is getting it. The bad news, mailenable is screwing up. One thing would be to read some of the docs that come with mailenable to try and figure out your config problem. I would start with the MailEnable Standard Guide.pdf in the docs folder in mailenable install dir. This should help solve your problem.

In mail enable in the smtp activity log, it said the following:
"MAIL FROM:<POSTMASTER@blabla.no -ip.com> SIZE=1235 552 Message size exceeds fixed maximium message size 52 54 "
there are two things strange about that. I never sent mail from POSTMASTER, i have only sent from test. The other thing is that there is not a fixed maximium message size, it is unlimited.
Thanks again

One thing to try is under the Mail Enable folder in the start menu, Click on Diagnotics Utility. This will help you find anything else wrong that maybe causing a problem. If you needed to, you can contact Mail Enable for free regarding your issue (http://www.mailenable.com/support/supportrequest.asp). I did a search on Mail Enable KB. I looked up the error 10038 on this line.
Outbound, could not send the command to the server (error 10038).
This is what it said.
The 10038 error occurs when MailEnable is sending mail messages to a remote
server and the connection was terminated by the remote server (usually the
result of an earlier 10060 error whereby the server is no longer in
communication with the remote client). This usually means that the remote
mail server is rejecting your message because you are blacklisted (see:
www.dnsstuff.com) or because you do not have a PTR record configured for
your IP address (see: http://www.mailenable.com/tools).

YES!!! I uninstalled and then installed the program, and it works now. I think it installed incorrectly the first time. Do you think that I should give you the points, or should I ask for a refund (please answer honestly)?
Either way, thanks a ton.

Do you have a Hotmail account - if so - first using Outlook Express - this only works with Express. Add your Hotmail account as an account - once added view the properties and put in a 'Reply To' address the email address you want to use - now sending any emails from Outlook using you Hotmail account will appear to have some from your domain - sending from Outlook will not have the normal Hotmail rubbish on the bottom of it either and no reference is visiable to imply that you used your Hotmail account.
Next you would need to set up Email Forwarding - this part allows you so say to people, yeah email me at 'thenameyouwant@yourdomain
All-in-all doing this is free and makes it seem like you have an email address at you domain.
Hope my description was clear enough - I tested what I've said before I typed this as well.
