SQLException java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket.

Yesterday. All the things were OK.But when I turned on the computer this morning and ran  "java Testconnect"
I got the error: SQLException java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket.

By the way: yesterday when I used java Applet  in eclipse, I could connect  the server database. But the same applet class did not work in the webpages. SO, I copied "msutil.jar mssqlserver.jar msbase.jar" to C:\j2sdk1.4.2_04\jre\lib\ext and C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\lib\ext  ,C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\lib\ext  (the last two are installed by eclipse editor, I think).

I deleted all of them now and re-setup the JDBC driver. it does not work.

TOMCAT 5.0, winXP, j2sdk1.4, JDBC driver
thanks.

is the database on the same machine as the webserver?  If not, is the applet signed?

Where is the database running?  Are you sure the database hasn't gone down (or network connectivity between you and the database.)
