how to fix a (virus?) problem in win98 where system slows and freezes shortly after boot with multiple winocx32 in taskbar - no right click available and cannot delete - simply causes more copies of winocx32 to appear....

Use this http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/
disable all applications from startup (tab) after running the above tool and reboot the machine
check if it would occur.
If not, enable each application one by one and you can find the culprit
