* VERY URGENT *Adding a Scroll Bar

All I need is to add a normal scroll bar.  This one only has end arrows, I need the middle drag part.  This is VERY urgent. Go to the following link and download the zip

a component scroll bar? i tried, and i cant get it working

it is probably because you are using Flash 4 code...   if you want this project to work, then you need to use proper coding format...

all you need to do is add a scrollbar component, and use the dynamic text field as the scroll target...  you need to give the text field an instance name first...

I did do that, and it dosent work still.  I dont have the time to figure out how to recode this, nor the skill.  Is there anyway that I can use the scroll component with this code?

I couldn't tell you...  at the moment I am not sure why it is not working...

here are some things to check...

- you have given your scrollbar component an instance name
- you have given your dynamic text box an instance name
- you are targeting the instance name of the text box for the scrollbar

other than that, I am not too sure what else to do...

Well, It's done, but I have no way of sending it to you, and I have no access to my server right now. They frown upon sharing of email addresses and contact info, so we can't break the rules. I can give you the info here, if you like, it doesnt take long.

1:  Inside the controlmenu movieclip l(I deleted the scrollbar you had, and the scrollbar component you had before)

2: I used the texttool to create a dynamic textfield and sized it to the size of the box you were representing before.

3. I named the new textbox "mybox" (no quotes)

4. I drag a scrollbar component from the stage onto the right margin of "mybox". The scrollbar component should pick up the name of the textbox, but if it doesnt, make sure it says "mybox" under the target.

5. make sure the dynamic text box html property is set to "true". You can do this by clicking on the button that looks like <> in the property panel, or you can the code

mybox.html=true;

6. Add the following code (after line 5)
mybox.htmltext='<a href="http://www.microsoft.com">First link</a>'+"\n";
mybox.htmltext+='<a href="http://www.macromedia.com">Second link</a>'+"\n";

if you want it to be bold, just add the <b> tag as you would in html
the "\n" gives you a new line
please take note of the quotes.. I start and end with single quotes and quotes in between those are double quotes.

I assume you know where to put your asfunction code..

Good luck!

I have a file for you, but will not be able to post until much later this afternoon or early tonight.

Yeah that works, but it dosent use the sort and search function, kind defeats the purpose of having it.

MontoyaProcess Improvement MgrCommented:
to add those functions, change the method by which the text field is populated, and populate the form with text references, the way you did it originally.

I didnt do that. it was a tutorial from flashkit.com.  Its old crappy code, and i dont have the skill to transfer that info along to what you sent me

I appreciate all of your work Iammontoya, but it didnt work the way I needed it to.  And in my time constraints, I had to find someone local to help me.

Thank you for everything & sorry.

Jason,

It is your own fault for trying to use an example that was written for Flash 4 and you wanted it to have Flash MX and above capabilities.  That is like trying to modify an old 486 computer to run like a 2GHz machine of today...  or trying to put a monster truck engine in a Chevy Nova.

I don't think you can expect experts to help you out if they don't receive some type of recognition for their efforts...

In my case, I don't need the points, but others would...

just something to think about before you try to use legacy code again...

I understand your point, and its a good one, but im not going to give full credit to someone for something that doesnt work. I dont mind giving out the points, but I was under the impression that you give points to the person who did what you asked.  I think in this case since he did make a working example i can give him half of the points.

rascalpantsCommented:
the grade is what gives the multiple of points...

if a question is worth 100 points, then a grade of an A gives the person 400 expert points...  B gives 300, C gives 200.

In this case, I would recommend an A or B, because a C is typically no a good thing to give or receive...  sometimes an A is awarded for effort...

I did not know that. i thought you only recieved points depending on what was offered. thanks for clearing this up.
