cd rom problems

Hi,
i am using win2k prof and I am having a problems with my cdroms 2 cd roms.

Windows recognizes the cd roms fine, however wheneve I try to read any cd I get the following erroe message:

disk is not formatted:

The disk in the f: drive is not formmated.
Do you want to format it now?

This happens on both drives.

I am not sure if this is a problem with nero, but i uninstalled the software package and the problem was still happening.

Anybody have an idea how to solve this?

Thanks,
Arthur

Hi, The first thing to try is to see if the CD-ROM drives respond in MyComputer.

Open my computer and rightclick anyone of the drives and select eject.

Does the drive eject?.

You may also try going into deviceManager(Hardware in Win2k) and removing the CD-ROM drivers, re-start the pc
and let windows reinstall the drivers.

Have these drives ever worked recently??

Are you trying to read Original or Backup CDs?

Also you may have a problem with your power supply not giving off enough power
to enable the CD-ROMs to work.

Either its not powerfull enough or it has developed a fault.

Are you using Roxio's Direct CD/Drag-to-disc or Nero's In-CD. If do unload the drivers and then reload them and see what happens? Also did this problem just surface and you had no problems prior to now? If so do remember installing or uninstalling and programs/hardware/drivers etc? If you did then take a hard look at that being the problem.

Oops never mind you said CD ROMS so the ROXIO and/or NERO'S drivers will not be an issue unless what posted is a mistake and on of the CD drives is a CD Writer.

Yeah I object until vbguy lets us know specifically what fixed the problem

BTW Net if you noticed I asked vbguy to post what the fix before you posted. I think it is unfair to honor this request until vbguy lets us know what the fix was.

Yeah I know I just wanted to make sure that before the Q is closed that we know what the fix was. I don't think it appropriate for a request to be made by a questioner to remove a Q unless they are willing to post the fix. :)

Hi,

I used the software from this link:

http://www.nero.com/us/631940828445001.html

Seems nero's uninstall doesnt do a very good job.

Thanks,
Arthur
