All that is what I was doing to no avail! Found out that if the spooler is not started and in the automatic mode it won't install correctly! Came upon this by happenstance! Thanks for the help. &nbsp;AL

I would have helped you further but you never got back to me on if you had tried the above or what not ....otherwise I would have had you check the spooler and troubleshooted the problem further. Since you never posted any results I assumed you abandoned the question (which happens alot on here).

I have a compaq 5888, win xp sp2 and all updates, with a HP deskjet 970cse. Tried to load new drivers from HP after upgrading from win 98se, and now it can't detect the printer on the usb port. It used to work fine in win 98, but after updating to XP I can't get the drivers to load because it doesn't see it. Tried uninstalling, diconnecting, then reloading and nothing! Any ideas? &nbsp;AL
