Compress Mpeg file with VirtualDub but the size become larger

I tried to use VirtualDub to compress mpeg file and want to burn it to one CD.

I am a new user and not know about any other method to do this. I tried to test by compress a 530MB mpeg file by VirtualDub 1.5.10.

I select 'Fast recompress' and used 'Xvid Mpeg-4 codec'. In config I select '2Pass-1stPass' and save as avi, then select '2Pass-2nd Pass Int' and checked  'discard the 1st pass'. Then use job control to do the job.

But the avi created by 2Pass-2ndPass is more than 1G, even I select the desired size about 500mb.

1) Can any one teach me the exact process to use VirtualDub?
2)As I use jobcontrol to process the 1stPass and 2ndPass together, i wonder is VitualDub can use the 1stPass's data to compress the 2ndPass file?
3)Is there any other method or application can compress the size of 1G mpeg file into 1CD? or VirtualDub is appropriate application to do this?

Thanks,
Mike

You can use nero Vision express in nero 6 ultra edition to burn the mpeg directly. You control the file size, the quality and every other thing you want. That saves you the trouble of recoding from mpeg->avi then avi->???
                 ||||Come to think of it do you just want to put an avi file in a CD||||

I really think encoding files is easier with VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 (http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/)

Thanks for advice.

 adecold,

Is nero Vision express in nero 6 ultra edition can let me burn a 1G size mpeg file into a CD rom with capacity of 730mb? Then, I can view the movie directly from the CD rom and no need decompress?

Regards.

adecold,

I use XviD-24062003-1 _ALPHA_ Release by Koepi.

As I want to convert a 1G mpeg movie into xvid (actually, if divx can work, I also will use it. But I also tried used VirtualDub to convert it to divx, the size for a 530mb mpeg also become larger) and burn it into 1 cd rom. Then, I can view the movie in computer and don't want to split it into 2 discs.

Do you know how to do it? Actually, I follow the instuction in Doom9 website at the beginning. Have you also compress mpeg file like this before and sucessfully compress it to 1 cd rom. As I view from website that xvid can even compress a dvd movie and burn with only 1 cd rom. I just wonder why it can't work for mpeg file.

Please help.

Thanks,
Mike

Why You Should Analyze Threat Actor TTPs

After years of analyzing threat actor behavior, it’s become clear that at any given time there are specific tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) that are particularly prevalent. By analyzing and understanding these TTPs, you can dramatically enhance your security program.

The reason the movie is coming out at 1G+ is probably because everything is working correctly. A 530 meg VCD movie is EXTREMELY compressed.  Most 45-minute TV shows compressed to VCD are about 440 Megs.  What movie is this/ running time ?

If you want to use xvid/divx and get it to fit on a cd, you'll have to select a very low bitrate, probably in the ~700 range.

JaffakREE,

The movie is a mpeg file more than 50mins long wt. 530mb.

I am a new user for VirtualDub. I want to know where to control the bitrate if i use xvid-mpeg4 codec in VD.  Is it in the Max Bitrate field of 'Alt Curve' tab when I execute the '2Pass-1Pass' and '2Pass-2ndPass Int' and i should input 700?

Is there any field to input / control the desired size of the file for xvid?

Is a 1G mpeg file can really compress by xvid or divx codec into 1CD? Can use advise me the detail how to use VD to do it?

I tried to use Divx :-] Mpeg4-Fast motion to compress a 7mb mpeg file for testing. I find that I can compress it to less than 3mb even I select the data birate from 600 to 910 per second only if I also compress the audio to mp3. But I still cannot find a field to input the desire size. I want to use it to compress the 1G file into 1CD's size (700mb). Do u think I can do that?

The thing is I am not familiar with the version of xvid codec you are using, I can't find the options you specified in the version of xvid i use. But in any case if you select a bitrate low enough the file should reduce in size. You might also want to try one pass as it is easier to configure.

Yes - usually you specify a bitrate, rather than a filesize.  A bitrate of 1100 in divx/xvid would result in approximately a 475 meg file for a 50 minute movie.

In virtualdub, you would select multipass, 1st pass, then save the file (schedule to run later).
Then select multipass, 2nd pass, save the file as a different name (schedule to run later)
Open the job scheduler (F4), and click start.

Divx 4 is very old, get divx 5.1.x from www.divx.com/divx
