I am working with someone who has numerous inbound links. Some are a result of direct contact, with no payments involved, and some are paid for links. In general, although it fluctuates, the paid for links probably have the higher ranking themselves. The page rank of our site has improved a lot. My question is whether or not the links have an indefinite ongoing value. How can I distinguish whether or not continual payment to "paid for" links is necessary or not? Is testing the waters by simply dropping those links the only way to know?

Are you simply trying to elevate your Google search rankings? the fastst way to do this is by having your link on sites that are considered "High usage" by google as they are reindexed every seven days - everyone else gets re-indexed every 6-7 weeks.

oh.. high usage.. ok. That is something else to consider. So if the links that are paid for are "high usage", then they are important to maintain as opposed to another high ranking page that is not "high usage"?

What determines "high usage"?

My consideration of incoming links valuables is the factor how much PR I can get from a particular page.
The valuables in my opinion depends on a few factors such as PR of the outgoing Page, how many links, the place where your link will be presented, the time for how long it will stay there. I believe the calculations can be done based on mathematical factors.
