WSH or VB or Shell script to copy and change PATH variable

I have an app that when installed changes the SYSTEM PATH statement in Windows XP, 2000 and NT.  Does anyone have a script that will copy the original SYSTEM PATH to a file.   Then after the new applicatation is installed, it adds it's own path, e.g., C:\Progra~1\weirdapp\app to the SYSTEM PATH and erases the rest of the original SYSTEM PATH.   I then want to append the original SYSTEM PATH to the new PATH that the application has created.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!
