Is it Motherboard Problem?

I have a machine with Biostar M7SXG motherboard with Pentium 4 processor. It shows me the windows logo and then hangs up, and when i tried to re-install XP then after copying all files it shows me MATRIX like machine codes. I then reformat and reinstalled XP from my friends machine and try to use with my desktop, same problem of showing machine codes.

This also happens to me same six months back, i then replace the motherboard and works fine. Is there any other way to get out of it without replacing the Motherboard again.

Really appreciate.

FR.

Thanks,

I'll check the dump tonight.

Out for 4:
the HDD is not the issue since tested on the other machine and works fine.
since it happens even on clean HDD so the Drivers issue is also removed.

Now need to check option 2&3.
- bad RAM
- bad power supply

BUT having the same problem earlier when i replace the Motherboard the new installation works fine. WHY?
Some problems, like a bad power supply, don't manifest themselves until a heavy load is put on it.  Installation can go smoothly, and then when additional demand is made on it, the component fails.
A bad power supply, by the way, can ruin a good motherboard over time.
Hi Callandor,

I check out the dump BUT its not a dump its some sort of unreadable codes (u can say shimmering HEX like, came after affecting virus) on whole screen.

And one Question is What min req power supply in units is required for a simple P4 machine.
Currently its HEC-200SR-AT power supply is installed on my desktop. It gives Total Output - 180W and Peak Output - 200W

I am going to order another board P4SGXMX from ASUS. It is similar in size to M7SXG from Biostar. Whay u say?

Thanks for time.

One more comment...

Is there any utility that tells at startup that which component is failing... like if i boot from a floppy drive and run that utility, it scans and checks components like RAM, MB Power Supply etc. and give the status.

Tnx.

Guide to power ratings:

I generally suggest 350W or more for P4 (I use an Enermax 365).

Asus is good quality, and so is Abit.  I have a P4 2.8c, and I use an Abit IC7-G, which is very flexible, and doesn't cost top dollar.

There really isn't one utility to test everything; you choose the ones that are known for good overall performance.  I use www.memtest86.com for testing memory (it's not foolproof, but it will tell you when you have bad RAM), and SiSoft Sandra is good for testing other components (it's more of a benchmarking program, but it works).
Thanks for your Time...Callandor.
